The Green Cities conference is back this year from March 17-19 in Melbourne’s Grand Hyatt. A celebration of sustainable living, the conference’s 2015 theme is ‘Connect’ and explores the ways that a city identifies itself as sustainable.

Based in the Grand Hyatt, there will be additional networking events, site tours and hands-on master classes held in locations across the city.

As well as these, there are over 70 speakers who have been invited for this year’s conference, including leaders in sustainable practices and research, notable figures such as Lord Mayor Robert Doyle and the event’s keynote speaker, internationally acclaimed urban planner Larry Beasley CM.

A Member of the Order of Canada, the nation’s highest honour for lifetime achievement, Larry Beasley CM has been integral to the revitalization and reshaping of Vancouver as the former Chief Planner for the City. Responsible for the creation of a ‘Vancouver model’, which planners have subsequently drawn from for the design of their own cities in America and abroad (for better and for worse), Beasley’s leadership and influence is of an international scale.

Aside from the chance to network and learn from industry leaders during the conference, in its planning organisers have created the 'Weapons of Mass Creation' competition to reward sustainable ideas, techniques and technologies in design. Finalists will have the chance to present to the conference audience and be judged by a panel of experts to be named 'Most Innovative 2015' and be featured in a number of industry publications.
