Andrea Grützner Finissage at CCP

CCP presents two exhibitions with the work of noted German photographer Andrea Grützner, that re-define and celebrate the idea of architecture and design

An evening of reflections upon architecture, photography and design at the Centre for Contemporary Photography.

Established in 1986, the Centre for Contemporary Photography (CCP) is renowned for presenting contemporary photo-based arts in all forms for the enjoyment, education and understanding of patrons who visit the gallery in Fitzroy. Celebrating the visual experience, the gallery presents exhibitions that broaden the perspective of photography and delight the eye, and two such exhibitions are the work of noted German photographer Andrea Grützner.

The exhibitions, Tanztee and Erbgericht presented in Galleries 2 and 3 are visually arresting with Erbgericht, re-defining and celebrating the idea of architecture and design. Both exhibitions laud the artistry of Andrea Grützner as they focus on the interior landscape of a specific guesthouse in Saxony, Germany.

With Erbgericht there is a complex mélange of architectural details, colour and vignettes intersecting, overlapping or placed alone as statements to Grützner’s memory. The images invite discovery of place and meaning as the viewer is introduced to architecture that is fragmented and refracted, driven by light, and presented in combinations that surprise and tantalise perception.

In a completely different vein, Tanztee (or tea dance, translated from the German), is a compilation of truncated images that together present colour and movement through the intertwined arms and melding torsos, of women dancing at a tea dance at the guesthouse. The exhibitions present two very different ideas that are linked by place and memory, each an extrapolation of the other.

To celebrate the work of this extraordinary artist a Finissage is to be held at CCP on Wednesday 19 July, 6.30-7.30pm. This closing event for Grützner’s exhibitions will be a final opportunity to view these exceptional works, and to complement the evening there will be short talks by John Gollings AO and Jan Henderson, Niche Media and a tour of the exhibition with commentary by CCP director Naomi Cass.

For information visit the CCP Shop.
As there are limited tickets for the event, booking is essential.
