The prime location on Sydneys waterfront offered the unique opportunity for the creation of memorable 1.8 Ha public parkland at Pyrmont Point.
The master plan produced by ASPECT Studios, Hill Thalis, and CAB consulting conceived of the new park lands as an enlargement of the existing Pyrmont Point and Gibba Parks on the Pyrmont peninsula providing a combined public open space of over 4Ha.
The design provides far reaching water sustainability initiatives, a water and nature play ground, direct access to the harbour with its water amphitheatre, multiple new paths which stitch the park into its surrounds, and a waterfront promenade around the Pyrmont foreshore.
The park structure is incorporates multiple spaces, from the broad to the intimate. Interpretation and public art reveal the layers of site occupation as well as registering tidal variation on the water steps. Level changes across the site are used in subtle ways to create discreet areas that allow for different uses and create varying park rooms. The structure has defined these park spaces into 7 key areas; the sheltered bay, the pole garden, the shoreline promenade, the green and the point, the grove, the community square and the escarpment and Pirrama Road.
