Located in a former warehouse and pie factory, The Grounds of Alexandria is a world-class cafe, restaurant, artisan bakery and coffee roasting facility, with a focus on a holistic approach to food and design. A dedication to quality and a passion for produce is evident in every aspect of the business, from the fine coffee it serves and the sweet treats baked on-site to the abundant garden overflowing with fresh produce that feeds the seasonal menu.
Very much a family enterprise, The Grounds of Alexandria is run by Ramzey Choker working alongside long-standing business partner Jack Hanna, with the interior design by Ramzey’s sister, Caroline Choker.
Inside, the former industrial warehouse has been transformed with a blend of rustic and contemporary details. Blackened steel frames, bespoke wooden cabinetry and polished white and green subway tiles contrast against vintage wooden tables and refitted shipping containers.
The cafe and restaurant opens onto the external courtyard, which is bordered by a crumbling brick wall. Beyond, the luscious garden of heirloom vegetables, fragrant herbs, fresh fruit and flowers are grown in garden beds hemmed in by reused railway sleepers.
Based around King Living’s engineered steel frame, the new Zaza sofa blends form and function with detachable backs and arms.
