This project is for the refurbishment of an existing three-bedroom house in Bondi.

The site has an east/west orientation with a dramatic slope to the east ending in a 4-metre drop, which provides clear views across the bay to North Bondi. The brief was not to increase the habitable floor area, but to reorganise spaces, open up the living areas, take advantage of the views on the upper level and make the backyard usable.

Only 10 square metres have been added to the ground floor, but the changes made the all floor more usable and better suitable to the current owners needs.

A new free standing wall is separated from the existing structure by a sleeve of frameless glass, providing both privacy and natural light in the main living areas. A new deck with a timber framed portal creates the new entertainment area overlooking the stepped backyard. The kitchen is small but practical and has been designed to blend in the new space. In the first floor the rumpus room was transformed in a meditation room that opens into a new deck type terrace with magnificent views towards Bondi beach.
