Spring 2013 saw the opening of the display suite for Park & Raphael in Abbotsford – a collaboration between DesignOffice, Great Dane, Studio HiHo, Cantilever, Urban Commons and Tait, commissioned by progressive developers Kalex.
Kalex’s approach has been rewarded, with the townhouses the display suite was built to represent selling out within a month.
The display suite for the Park & Raphael townhouses occupied an existing warehouse on the Abbotsford site where the 19 luxury townhouses will be built. In keeping with the spirit of Abbotsford, the display suite was an insertion in the existing warehouse created as a concise distillation of the architectural elements and lifestyle attributes that collectively define the Park & Raphael houses.
Approaching from Park Street, visitors entered into an urban garden showcasing the outdoor kitchen: Tilt, designed by Urban Commons and Tait. From here, a suite of glazed timber doors with a blackened finish formed threshold to the interior.
The perimeter of the interior was conceived as a simple vessel, lined in 2 subtle shades of painted plaster, providing a waist high datum which brings the eye down to a residential scale. The architectural elements of the townhouse interiors and display suite collateral are removed from this lining sitting independently on the honed concrete floor.
Large oak timber structures and leaning panels frame the marketing images and formed a family of crafted elements connecting back to the Great Dane furniture and the tactility of the interior palette.
The townhouses were designed by Jackson Clement Burrows with interiors by DesignOffice.
