In the office these houses are known as the Fraternal (non-identical) Twins. The opportunity to redevelop a pair of semi-detached houses for two different clients is common, but for the projects to eventually be realised is rare.
Rather than using the traditional approach of mirroring the residences around the party wall, the response was to the immediate context of the sites and their environmental conditions, resulting in two houses with very different spatial qualities. The design of these semis became a thesis on how to make a north building and a south building in the context of site, climate and the semi-attached typology; whilst providing the homes with the instant joy of contemporary and contextual architecture that one hopes makes life better for the families that live there.
