The brief for The Botanical was to reinvent and modernise an iconic food venue in a way that complemented the existing building. The fitout is designed with primary focus on a standout, all-day dining venue within a pub.

The existing building has a strong architectural aesthetic, with dominant features including skylights and low ceilings. The new fitout introduces a simple yet rich material palette of robust finishes. Dark timbers are offset by black steel, pressed glass light fittings and pale walls. Warm leather creates intimacy in the dining room, while in the conservatory – the Archer Room – an outdoors aesthetic is introduced with lighter, brighter finishes. Some elements from the previous fitout have been reinstated, including the iconic Artichoke Lights in the dining room.

The rear main bar features strong details, opening onto a bright terrace area in monochromatic tones. A dark oak floor unifies all areas, changing to classic french-style floor tiles in a monochromatic finish in indoor/outdoor areas.

Drainage is often the forgotten workhorse of the building and design function. Yet drainage maintains a simple albeit vital purpose.
