For the front of the Soban Restaurant, the designers wanted to create a standout installation that made full use of the 14-metre long shop front. Different sized panels of recycled timber are carefully positioned along the shop front, with larger, wider pieces at the edges giving way to smaller panels at the entrance, creating a dynamism and flow to the façade. The unfinished surface of the panels contrasts the stained black oriental doors. Translucent glass display inserts were introduced to the façade, offering glimpses into the restaurant.
The internal space is simple in design and ambience. The open ceiling was blacked out with warm green perforated internal wall linings spread out across the internal space. Recessed fibre-optic lights on the walls, light globes suspended from the ceiling and blacked out track lights create a delicate, tranquil interior.
