Designed by Melbourne design firm Lombard & Jack, Señoritas is an intimate and charming space that immerses diners in the experience of a Mexican fiesta.
Inside, Señoritas is an eclectic combination of feminine whimsy and dark, mysterious spirit. The space is a celebration of the importance of women in Mexican culture, with several depictions of La Catrina – the skeletal female that often features in Mexican celebrations of Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead). Above the dining space, a series of felt-covered light fittings inspired by the shape and movement of Mexican skirts have been custom designed by Lombard & Jack, and manufactured by Jan Flook.
Contemporary and classic Mexican design sit side by side – from the life-sized La Catrina model from fashion house Pineda Covalín, to the hand painted tiles by Melbourne artist, Aaron McKenzie; from the mirrored interpretation of a Diego Rivera mural by Dennis Ropar, to Yenny Huber’s photographic representation of La Catrina. The distinctive graphic design defining the image of Señoritas, La Catrina, has been created by Mexican design firm, La Metropolitana. Traditional handcrafts that illustrate the rich pre-Hispanic cultures from across Mexico complete the fitout.
Cassina, one of the world’s leading furniture companies, has rejoined Space and its collection of the world’s leading contemporary design brands.
