The challenge of this design project was to create a sense of intimacy within the confines of the large architectural envelope. To create a hierarchy of spaces, we raised the floor level, delineating the entry atrium. Two joinery ‘boxes’ flank each side, forming a passage that draws the eye through to the view. The ‘boxes’ conceal the Guest WC and Cellar and their design impact is intriguing as a cantilever over the edge of the platform. This feature is visible from almost every aspect of the ground level. The kitchen seamlessly engages with the entry ‘boxes’.

The triple level staircase is a sculptural statement, finely detailed and executed, heightening the scale of the atrium light well and punctuated by an organic floating pendant light.?? We deconstructed the overwhelming scale into manageable areas, while maintaining a cohesive sense of the whole. ?
