The fitout for the National Australia Bank (NAB) South Australia head office will act as a pilot for the next generation of NAB accommodation spaces nationally.
NAB’s existing offices included dated, cellular work settings spread out across the eleven floors within the building. Through activity based working, the new workplace has consolidated the space requirements to four interconnected, open-plan work floors and one client floor with meeting and training facilities. An interconnecting stair was implemented to link the four work floors to increase movement through the building and interaction between staff.
To understand and achieve this potential, a reverse brief process was employed in which floor planning and user group interviews were undertaken concurrently. This provided the earliest opportunity to translate the activity based working model on plan for the user group to react to and align with commercial and cultural goals.
Based on the concept of home, NAB’s Adelaide workplace model was designed to support the diversity and mobility of its people and enable improved cross functionality of teams and businesses. The new workplace (designed to a density of below 12sqm per person) allows the bank to absorb change and growth within the boundaries of the four work floors through the promotion and support of more mobile working patterns and a flexible platform of work settings.
