Eat Green Design was hosted by the Powerhouse Museum as part of Sydney Design Week 2009. The event, which celebrated sustainable food and design, required dining space for 40 guests.
Tribe Studio created a pop-up restaurant for the Turbine Hall. A low suspended ceiling made from ply laser-cut with tapering spirals created a warm, intimate and festive space within the expansive hall. Lights were hidden inside the spirals, creating a whimsical yet sustainable design that used low VOC adhesives and paints, and compact fluorescent lights. In the spirit of recycling, the ceiling installation was designed so that it could be broken down and reused as wall art, trivets, Christmas trees and table lamps once the structure was dismantled; however, the entire installation was purchased by a restaurant and will be reused in Surry Hills.
