Minifie Nixon and Oculus were shortlisted to design a new Visitors Centre and Cafe for Heide Museum of Mordern Art. The cafe was assigned a rear courtyard to occupy the foreground of the approach from the upper car park. At the forecourt entry to HeideII and III the proposal engaged a version of the car-port architecture implied by the cafe’s original use as the family garage.

In playing an important role in establishing the entry court as a focal point for the Museum complex and its collection of buildings and artworks, the Visitors Centre would needed to take its place in a harmonious ensemble of buildings, but also hold it’s own as an artwork in it’s own right.
