Claremont Tonic is a new addition to South Yarra’s Yarra Lane precinct, with a pan-Asian menu from Maison Davis owner Davis Yu.

The restaurant interior is raw and industrial, creating a restaurant with an edgy character – the interior you wouldn’t take home to meet your mother. Drawing influence from Melbourne’s thriving fashion and live music scene, the interior features darker tones of grey and black, the colour of choice for many Melbournites. This moody palette is complemented by bold graphics, flashes of neon artworks commissioned for the space and a collection of found objects that act like props, adding a cinematic layer to the interior.

The interior layout is a response to the limitations of the space, with the entrance defined by the existing building. A seamless flow from the exterior into the interior has been created, with a compact entrance opening up to the main dining room – where timber tables and floors are paired with industrial chairs and a long, open kitchen. Seating encompasses a bar, booths, a high communal table and stools along the windows for quick eats. The end result is a playful interior that also delivers a memorable dining experience.
