Located on the Mornington Peninsula south of Melbourne, Willow Creek Vineyard is the site for a new cellar door and bistro designed by Carr. The architecture and interior of the cellar door and bistro reflects a strong contemporary design that sits embedded in the rural landscape adjacent to the original Edwardian house.
From arrival to departure, guests are aware of the connection to the landscape through the selection of materials and discreet views. The unique setting among the vineyards was key to this project, delivering a complete winery experience.
The new architectural façade consists of a simple glazed box enveloped by a steel mesh overlay, providing a distinctive new entry to the cellar door tasting rooms and bistro. A large, striking pivot door at the entry directs guests to a 10-metre long bluestone tasting bench that pierces the façade, acting as tasting bench internally and set down externally.
Interior and exterior materials, fixtures and fittings maintain a rustic, authentic aesthetic with the predominance of oak and stone creating a firm sense of place and creating an ambience particular to the surroundings.
