Darling Quarter is Sydney’s new public playground: a major place making project with an innovative children’s play space as its centrepiece. Commissioned by the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority and Lend Lease and designed by ASPECT Studios, the area is over 4000sqm – making it the largest in the Sydney CBD.
Darling Quarter builds a strong pedestrian link between the popular Darling Harbour district and the city, and reinforces the movement between the Entertainment Centre, Cockle Bay and beyond. The project revitalises the area by upgrading ground plane materials, lighting, furniture and planting, and setting a new benchmark with an emphasis on premium quality and highly sustainable initiatives. The play area also features interactive water play facilities, providing a family focused core for city dwellers, particularly those from neighbouring Pyrmont and Chinatown, and for tourists and visitors.
Complimenting the new playground are generous grassed community areas and planting, civic water features, a children’s theatre, a new café, restaurants and bars.
