The new Allen & Overy workspace is the first tailored Australian office for the global law firm.Located in 85 Castlereagh Street, Sydney, the 4500sqm fitout occupies 3 floors from level 23 to 25.
Emphasising the east to west axis of the building, the tenancy is split by a central ‘street’ with two steel interconnecting stairs, which allows for greater client integration. Clients are afforded access to meeting rooms, the staff library, teapoints and the staff cafe, all of which are position along the street, while also being able to visually connect with the law firm’s workspace. Offices addressing the ‘street’ are equipped with fritted glass and bronze anodized mesh screens to protect confidentiality, yet also enabling a certain level of transparency. This transparency enables greater client/lawyer relationships and allows the client a greater understanding of the firm.
Allen & Overy’s culture of a fresh and youthful law firm in Australia was a driving factor behind the material palette. Traditional corporate finishes were replaced by semi-industrial materials, with CFC sheet being utilised for wall, floor and ceiling finishes. Combined with the treated black steel used for the interconnecting stairs, this palette gives the overall fitout a understated quality.
Few furniture designs withstand the test of time as well as the HÅG Capisco. Established as a seating icon for over 30 years, the chair is as popular and contemporary today, as the day it was launched.
