Alexandra is a 10 apartment residential building within the City Quarter complex in Camperdown, Sydney.
It is an adaptive re-use redevelopment of the Admissions Building of the former Royal Alexandra Childrens Hospital, which operated on the site for most of the 20th Century and is well known to many residents of Sydney. Heritage impact studies indicated that the original building was constructed between 1904 and 1906 and it is clearly the icon building of the site, with its well-detailed stone façade and colonnades. The masterplan reflected the significance of Alexandra by placing it adjacent to the village green of the City Quarter complex, which also encourages use of the gymnasium and pool on the ground floor of the building.
Drainage is often the forgotten workhorse of the building and design function. Yet drainage maintains a simple albeit vital purpose.
