Adriano Zumbo is Australia’s answer to Willy Wonka, producing decadent pastry creations including Lime & Mint Mojito and Raspberry Caramel-flavoured macarons and the indulgent Man Goes Peanuts cake with peanut butter crunch and mango burnt honey mousse.

Zumbo’s latest project inside Sydney’s newly refurbished casino, The Star, is part retail and part dine-in restaurant, with each of the spaces connected by a ‘dessert train’ that snakes out from the kitchen. The interior features a quirky and colourful fitout, with eccentric details inspired by the boardgame Mouse Trap. Moving parts controlled by colourful cranks and gears celebrate the idea of the patisserie as a sugar-filled factory, while ‘mouse traps’ in the windows – designed by industrial designers Luxxbox – act as displays for cakes and sweet treats.

In the display kitchen, giant mixers and industrial droppers form part of the working factory. The clean white backdrop is animated with black tiles that mimic a giant measuring cup, while macaron wallpaper in the dining area completes the interior.

 

The original icon returns: Danish bar stool

The Danish bar stools were originally produced in the mid 1950s and are the first to be released in Workspace’s new 'Origin’s Collection'.
