liquidARCHITECTURE bring open-plan living to an Art Deco residence

The original house on this site was a conglomeration of styles, but with a good orientation and strong external aesthetic created by the existing brickwork. The clients wanted to modernise and streamline the internal spaces, in particular creating a well connected open-plan kitchen/living area and outdoor entertaining area, whilst still retaining the character of the house.

The main envelope of the building was retained, however the first floor was extended over the north-eastern wing in order to extend the bedrooms and improve the living amenity of the upper floor. The small kitchen on the ground floor was replaced with a laundry and a new open-plan kitchen/living and dining area created, with references to the existing art-deco style of the house. The pool surrounds were refurbished to create a cohesive flow between indoor and outdoor spaces and a contemporary outdoor entertaining area.
