Apical office fitout

June 6, 2013

Colour is the main focus for this small commercial fitout, in which a series of triangular facets playfully – and functionally – inhabits the space.

Colour is the main focus for this small commercial fitout in Richmond, Melbourne, by Duckbuild Architecture, with 13 colours in total expressed in varying levels of gloss, transparency, shape and surface angle.

The owner/occupier, Apical, is a peak body for various industrial products and organisations. The company’s name comes from the Latin ‘Apex’, conjuring up images of sharp prisms and mountains. This idea, combined with the owner’s love of colour, is reflected in the interior fitout for the space – with the entryway exploding into colourful triangles which run up the walls, onto the glass and playfully across the ceiling.

The triangulated design language sees faceted forms concealing unsightly pipework, air-conditioners and other poor finishes in the existing building. The same facets challenge the visitor’s perception of the space, as well as directing them through it.
