The Carson Woolstore

April 18, 2013

TONIC’s interior refurbishment of a warehouse-style apartment in Teneriffe utilises large open living spaces as well as private areas in a way that enables the user to enjoy the unique architectural history of the building.

TONIC was requested to assist with a complete interior refurbishment of this ‘warehouse’ apartment, located within Carson Woolstore at Teneriffe. The desire was to have large open living spaces for entertaining combined with private areas for retreat, enabling the client to enjoy the unique architectural history of the building with the comforts of modern living.

The existing mezzanine levels within the apartment needed stronger connections to the main living space, spaces and their public private connection needed re-working and a re think of circulation paths connecting the spaces needed consideration. This led to the reconfiguration of spaces and their function, removal and addition of existing and new stairways, refurbishment of bathrooms and re-working of the main kitchen, living, dining and terrace space.

The client’s desire to have exhibition space for their collection of artwork and display and storage space for personal items was also a priority. Careful consideration was given to specific opportunities for hanging and viewing of artworks and also in the design of custom joinery pieces. The resulting spaces enhance the industrial history of the existing warehouse space, creating a modern home which reflects the personality of its occupants.
