PUBLIC

PUBLIC is a new cafe, bar and function space situated in the heart of Adelaide’s CBD.

PUBLIC is a new cafe, bar and function space situated in the heart of Adelaide’s CBD. Embracing an eclectic mix of old and new, the space is reminiscent of public spaces such as railway stations and libraries in its design – creating an atmosphere that is attractive to customers from all walks of life.

The space includes a number of design elements. A ‘writers’ corner’ sees the walls plastered with the names of great authors, with other features including private booths, a 16-metre breakfast bar, an open kitchen and a 1940s click originally servicing the London, Midland and Scotland Railway.

Using a combination of materials including fabric, bamboo, metal, wood and wallpaper, PUBLIC’s interior asserts a design that is both cutting-edge and sophisticated, while remaining warm and inviting. Matte black, handmade tiles adorn the two bars and facade of the open servery, offsetting the raw black marble bench tops. The feature wall is cladded with wire brush fence palings, with Italian Bistro pendant lights suspended above and an eclectic collection of found objects reminiscent of ‘old London’ placed throughout.
