Interior Design: Nine Entertainment Co

August 16, 2011

Metier3′s fitout for Nine Entertainment Co, housed in the new 717 Bourke Street building in Melbourne’s Docklands.

The Nine Entertainment Co project is a 10,000sqm fitout in the new 717 Bourke Street building at Docklands. Nine Entertainment Co is the parent company of GTV9 Television, ACP Magazines, Nine MSN and Ticketek, and this project relocates the groups into one combined facility.

The starting point for the design was to take the company’s basic focus – relaying news and entertainment to a wide audience – and translate this idea into a built environment. The information that the group produces is delivered via television (GTV9), print media (ACP) and internet (Nine MSN). We took this idea and developed the notion that the tenancy is essentially a “theatre” people can visit for entertainment and to gain information.

Ideas about arrival and revelation are layered throughout the project, not only through architectural elements but also through tone and colour. The key entry points are darker and create a transition to various destinations.

The tenancy is located over four levels in a new building at Docklands. The building itself has a central core with floor-to-ceiling perimeter glazing on all four sides. This core is used as the transitional zone, connecting all enclosed spaces adjacent to it. This allowed for total daylight and visual connection to the outside from all positions.

The fitout involved significant input from service consultants and acoustic engineers. General work areas are open-plan with a common workstation system, which was not only economical but allows for future flexibility.
