La Trobe University Student Accommodation

September 29, 2012

The materials and colour palette of La Trobe’s Wodonga campus student accommodation reflect the idyllic and expansive rural context in which it resides.

Billard Leece Partnership have recently completed the La Trobe University Wodonga campus student accommodation, one of a suite of projects for the La Trobe University Rural Health Services program being delivered across north west Victoria. The accommodation provides residential support for students studying in regional areas to access ongoing studies.

Twenty-eight beds, amenities and common areas, kitchenettes and internal dining areas, external breakout space, and car parking are divided between a pair of two-storey buildings set within a greenfield student accommodation precinct adjacent the campus main spine. The site provides an idyllic pastoral backdrop with rolling hills, expansive grasslands and aged gum trees. The building material and colour palette reflects the rural context.

The design provides a strong sense of community, both within the residential precinct and within each individual housing pod. Arranged around a north facing courtyard, living and circulation areas contain views into the courtyard. The individual bedrooms contain large windows which provide good natural light, outward views and natural ventilation.
