Architecture: Mill Hill Residences

March 28, 2011

Baker Kavanagh Architects transform a heritage church in Bondi into two luxury apartments, fusing contemporary finishes with heritage details.

Mill Hill is a landmark heritage church, located in Bondi, New South Wales. The church has been converted into two luxury apartments, which blend elegant and crisp interiors with the heritage exterior and streetscape of the original brick building.

The apartments feature open-plan living centred around internal courtyards. The original ironwork and windows have been retained, while new timber floors reference the existing timbers of the church ceiling. Two terraces were built adjacent to the church, with a contemporary aesthetic in stark contrast to the heritage features that have been retained inside the church apartments.
