Interior Design: Prahbu Apartment

March 18, 2011

dKO Architecture’s apartment project in central Melbourne offers a quiet retreat hidden above the hubbub of the city.

The fitout of this apartment in Melbourne offers a quiet retreat nestled above the fracas of the inner-urban environment.

Despite a modest footprint, the space appears expansive and robust because of carefully selected and placed materials, finishes and furniture. Entertainment opportunities are maximised, with cleverly integrated storage and seating inside and outside allowing the family to host a party without feeling cramped or inhibited.

A restrained colour palette of earthy neutrals highlighted with pops of vibrant colour helps to provide warmth and a connection with the environment that might otherwise be lost in the centre of the city. The materials, finishes and furniture was driven by the client’s desire to create a warm and open family environment – something that had been missing in the cool, hard finishes and low ceilings of the existing space.

Furniture selections are elegant and grounded in order to visually heighten the space, while warm, textural upholstery selections are robust enough to withstand the rough and tumble of small children and family gatherings.
