Interior Design: Sydney Residence

November 4, 2010

Doherty Lynch infuse this family home with colour, pattern and texture to create a relaxed yet playful interior.

The Sydney Residence has a very Australian feel about it: unpretentious, relaxed and playful. Reclaimed timber flooring, oak veneer, bright paint colours and details such as pendant light fittings help make the project fresh and youthful.

The brief was for a family home filled with colour, energy and life, with a design that reflected the hustle and bustle of family life, stimulating young minds yet also providing harmony and calm. In an initial meeting, the client produced a yellow penny round tile. This tile became the inspiration for the rest of the project, with splashes of colour found in feature walls, working together with patterned wallpapers and pendant lights to create a layered design. Oak veneer, white and charcoal are the main joinery materials. Details have been kept simple, with emphasis placed on the material junctions. The colour and finishes palette was inspired by the clients’ extensive art collection.
