Interior Design: Westwyck Unit 4

August 18, 2010

Multiplicity’s ambitious and vibrant transformation of a former school hall is underpinned by sustainable design principles.

Unit 4 is a former school hall for Brunswick West Primary School, which is currently being converted into a green eco-village called Westwyck. Previous architects had designed and documented the project and structural works had commenced when Multiplicity became involved.

The design is therefore constrained by the original building fabric, as well as the new construction works. The design response was to overlay an approach to sustainable design to the project. The fitout incorporates raw, environmentally responsive materials (including those that have been recycled, salvaged and re-used), as well as closable zones to buffer the hall space and effective insulation to minimise heat loss and gain.
