Interior Design: ‘arc’ University of Wollongong

May 10, 2010

GPR Design’s refurbishment of this student food court is characterised by open spaces, vibrant colours and bold graphic design.

This project involved the complete reconfiguration and refurbishment of the student food court, which sits at the centre of the University of Wollongong’s interactive space.

The spacious setting accommodates the free-flowing circulation of students. Elemental graphic design rejuvenated the canteen space with fresh, vibrant colours and bold graphics, while contemporary chair designs added a design edge not usually associated with the monotony of institutional design.

Bi-fold glazing along the length of the building opens out onto an external forecourt, with skylights allowing natural light into the eating area. Seating arrangements vary from low coffee tables to elevated bar tops, while long communal tables recalling a banqueting table.
