Interior Design: Eyewear Youwear

Stanic Harding’s fitout for an eyewear retailer transforms a narrow, double-height tenancy into a contemporary retail space.

The design sensibly for this fitout places the retail component on the entry level and facing the street, with the consulting rooms at the back under the mezzanine level. The mezzanine allows for technical work, detailed fitting for clients and a staff space.

The scheme makes use of the height of the tenancy with a series of display units that extend up into and celebrate the double height space. The intention with these units was to create a series of white horizontal slots lit from the top combined with vertical aluminium shelving elements that are lit from the side.

The black and white units that run along the street side needed to be fully transparent. These units enable double-sided display, necessitated by the narrow tenancy, and maximises product display without restricting views in and out of the store from the street. An aluminium beam lit from above with small handmade acrylic bulbs illuminates temporary display pieces along the shop front.

The design gives prominence to each frame, as each piece is a well resolved and unique design. All lighting is low energy fluorescent and LED in cool white. Feature lighting is used sparingly, some suspended and some fully recessed.
