Interior Design: Cooper St

March 29, 2010

Giant Design Consultants have wrapped this retail space in black satin ribbon and charcoal mirrors, creating an elegant and striking design.

As the first standalone Cooper St store, the client wanted the design of this shop in Westfield Bondi Junction to set a benchmark for the brand. Previously only supplying to major department stores, they wanted a memorable environment that encapsulated both the brand and their customer profile.

The space is designed as a store within a store. The ‘street front’ behind the shopfront is to localise Cooper St in its suroundings, creating a design concept that can be adapted to suit different store locations as the brand grows.

The glamorous Cooper St eveningwear needed a fittingly elegant backdrop. The interior of the store is a temple of ribbons and mirrors. Customers are enveloped by the soft and sensual forms of the space. Over 1,200 metres of black satin ribbon was used to wrap the space, gathering in the centre of the ceiling to form a suspended chandelier. At the front of the store, the ribbons extend down to the floor, creating a backdrop for the manequins on display in the street zone. Charcoal mirrors give the space depth and movement. LED strips light up the ribbon as it winds up the wall and folds over onto the ceiling. Cooper St now plans to roll out this design concept in more of their stores.
