Interior Design: Gail Sorronda Concept Store

March 15, 2010

HH Tan’s design for the Gail Sorronda store in Brisbane features suspended steel arcs that dramatise the narrow interior of the retail space.

The Gail Sorronda Concept Store was a temporary pop-up tenancy, located in Brisbane’s TCB building. The architecture of the interior plays on the many contradictions within the Gail Sorronda label – juxtaposing crisp, masculine lines with soft, feminine forms; shadow with light; and solid with void.

The interior draws together ideas of suspension and the embrace, using a sequence of suspended steel ribs that repeat along the ceiling, and displaced floor planes. Reflection and light dramatise the length of the narrow space. The fluid form of each stainless steel rib wraps the store in an embrace, while also providing hanging and display space inside the store.
