Architecture: Harold Street Residence

March 14, 2010

A new addition to a small house in Western Australia, with a tower-like staircase, designed by A Workshop.

This project is an addition and alteration (complete rebuild) to a badly presented house, on a small 192sqm plot of land on Harold Street. Most of the front area of the house has been retained, with the new two-storey addition placed at the back of the site.

The vertical element of the extension opens up the house, with a ‘tower’ connecting the ground floor to the upper level. The rooms are linked by corridors, with formal living spaces at the front of the house and more open, informal spaces at the back which spill out into the courtyard.
