Architecture: Bayswater Ballroom

February 8, 2010

A rennovation and extension to a timber cottage, with separate areas of the house defined by gradual changes in the floor level.

A 2004 project of additions and alterations to a 1920s timber cottage sitting high up overlooking nearby landscaped areas. The project includes a simple extruded box form added to the rear of the residence, with subtracting space internally where required. Living spaces face the northern external courtyard, while a level change was introduced to create interest and allow access to the terraced garden at the rear. The existing house has a reworked ‘grand’ bathroom off the bedroom to the front of the property. A translucent covered pergola provides shelter from northern light during summer, while allowing winter light into the residence.
