In our 19th year, we’re even more grateful and excited to be bringing everyone in the industry together for a COVID-safe summer cocktail party.

The winners of IDEA 2021 will be announced in person at our Gala on Thursday 24 February 2022 at the Winx Stand, Royal Randwick in Sydney. 

Sydney’s newest world-class venue, the Winx Stand was unveiled just a few days ago with state-of-the-art facilities and five-star vibes.

Designed by COX Architecture, the $42 million destination named after one of Australia’s most famous horses is flooded with natural light from floor-to-ceiling glass offering panoramic views over the picturesque Royal Randwick racecourse.

With almost 300 projects shortlisted for 15 categories, the IDEA gala is shaping up to be an evening of sumptuous food and wine, amazing music, great company and the very best of Australian architecture and interior design.

We’ll also be announcing the Project of the Year, Emerging Designer of the Year and Designer of the Year – a fierce contest between YSG, Kennedy Nolan, Arent & Pyke, Travis Walton Architecture, Fender Katsalidis, Fiona Lynch and FMD Architects.

This year’s winners were chosen by our esteemed panel of industry experts, which included David Flack, Ritz Ghougassian director Jean-Paul Ghougassian, Brahman Perera, Chelsea Hing, Genesin Studio director Ryan Genesin, the IDEA 2020 Gold Medalist Meryl Hare, Bonnie Herring of Breathe and Hassell director Domino Risch.

We’ll also be honouring the – yet to be announced – Gold Medallist of 2021 – a person who has had an incredible career and given so very much to the Australian design industry.

But the IDEA awards are open for everyone to enjoy! No need to be shortlisted or have entered, the gala is an unmissable event for those who love and cherish design.
