Have you got your tickets for the IDEA 2019 Gala yet? With just four weeks to go, here’s a peek at what’s in store!

IDEA is Australia’s premier interior design and architecture awards. For 16 years, we’ve been celebrating the very best in Australian architecture and interior design with an evening of great food, wine, company and healthy competition between the country’s best practices and studios as they vie for the coveted IDEA trophy.

This year’s Gala is at one of Melbourne’s latest hotspots, The Timber Yard. Edgy and unconventional like the city itself, the space embraces its heritage as a timber storage and fabrication facility through the use of up-cycled materials and pockets of greenery.

As for the awards themselves, they remain a celebration of the projects and people who have made a name for themselves in the industry in 2019.

This year’s categories are Overall Winner, Colour, Designer of the Year, Emerging Designer, Event, Hospitality, Institutional, International, Object- Furniture and Lighting, Public Space, Residential Decoration, Residential Multi, Residential Single, Retail, Sustainability, Workplace Over 1000sqm, Workplace Under 1000sqm and the Gold Medal for practitioners who have made an influential and enduring contribution to Australian design culture over the course of a career.

The winners will be chosen by the above panel of design industry professionals, and this year’s crop of short-listed entries represents a diverse cross-section of the design community with emerging designers featuring alongside the country’s most respected and recognised architecture and design practices.

The night’s top prize, Designer of the Year, is the one to look forward to as Flack Studio goes up against Mim Design, Alexander & Co., Arent&Pyke, Kennedy Nolan and Emerging Designer of the Year nominee Kate Challis Interiors.

Kate joins Dean Dyson Architects, Tecture Architecture and Interior Design, Noise Noise Noise, INK interior architects, Nina Maya Interiors, Endrim, Adele McNab Architect, Adam Kane Architects, Bruce Henderson Interiors, Tom Mark Henry and Studio CD Design in the category for Emerging Designer.

Also sure to a nail bitter is this year’s new category for best use of Colour – whether for aesthetics, form delineation, utility or brand presence.
