Sydney remembers the Opera House architect
Responsible for the major development of Australias artistic and cultural identity, Joern Utzon was honoured with a State memorial inside his iconic Opera House. The service included performances, readings and recollections from the Sydney Symphony, Opera Australia, the Australian Ballet and the Sydney Theatre Company.
Speakers included, John Bell of The Bell Shakespeare Compnay, Cate Blanchett, NSW Premier Nathan Rees and Federal Arts Minister, Peter Garrett. Neil Finn sang the Crowded House hit Dont dream its over along with several ceremonial tributes performed by the Jannawin Dance Theatre.
Joerns son Jan remarked that his father considered the Opera House to be his greatest work.
