January 18, 2013

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP and Andersen Hunter Horne have been chosen as the team to develop the master plan for the central portion of Barangaroo.

The Barangaroo Delivery Authority has announced the team of international and local professionals selected to develop the master plan for the central portion of Barangaroo.

The team will be led by American firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM) and Andersen Hunter Horne, who claimed the spot over other teams shortlisted by the Authority’s Recommendation Panel including Bjarke Ingels Group with Hassell and Woods Bagot with Scape NYC.

“We have chosen a team which will ensure central Barangaroo becomes one of the world’s best places, with inspirational public places and opportunities for architectural excellence,” said John Tabart, CEO of the Barangaroo Delivery Authority.

The successful team describes the master plan as an opportunity to deliver a rich collection of open spaces, cultural uses, offices and apartments promoting excitement and diversity.

SOM team leader Phillip Enquist said “our team is diverse, energetic and keen to collaborate with the government and the community to create a world-renowned precinct of substance and delight.”

Central Barangaroo, at 5.2 hectares, is located between the new Headland Park at the northern end of Barangaroo and the commercial mixed use area at Barangaroo South.

The team will commence work on the master plan next week.
