Pin-up summer residency: Jon Tarry
Start Date: 16/02/2012
End Date: 10/03/2012
Pin-up Project Space will host its first summer residency this February/March, with an exhibition by celebrated WA artist Jon Tarry.
'Jon Tarry: Arrival and Departure' features a body of work that offers a compelling insight into the practice of the artist. The work responds to gallery curator Fleur Watson's idea that the exhibition explore the intersection of art, architecture and contemporary culture.
Tarry says of his work: "On arrival in Melbourne and encountering the emptiness of the waiting gallery space, I experience a feeling of constrained anticipation, of unknowing, of what time may offer. Watching the building 'crack' in the summer heat, a ‘nothingness' is apparent - like a blank piece of paper. These early thoughts and existential musings give way to a confluence of ideas and a preoccupation with the sensorial."
The exhibition includes a ten metre extruded drawing, a ‘cargo’ sculpture, serial wall constructions, time relayed film and an engagement with nano luminescence, all combining to offer an experience that tests the thresholds of perception.
