This project joins a constellation of existing sheds (shearing, painting and maintenance) across the site. The idea follows the ubiquitous three-sided farm shed, designed to face away from prevailing weather and provide shelter. The house is wrapped around two courtyards that are sheltered from the wind, rain and sun. The arrangement of the two houses creates a sheltered forecourt, a public space ready for the Christmas cricket match.

Located on 15 acres near Busselton, the new house replaces the family farmhouse. Teenage children and guests are located in separate quarters, enabling the house occupied mainly by the parents to be closed down and intimate.

Established: 1999

Specialities:

CODA is an architecture practice that doesn’t see the contradiction in creating work that is both practical and intellectually rigorous. Since 1999, we have been dedicated to a user-centric design approach, and have grown an enviable portfolio demonstrating a contemporary vision that respects the functional and emotional requirements of those that interact with our buildings. This approach has seen us widely recognised as one of Western Australia’s premier young practices, while securing significant commercial projects.
