A tiny space was found between two buildings in the port city of Fremantle. East-west orientation, 250m² – not quite the Australian Dream. Luxuries previously taken for granted, like a front yard, are discarded, and every metre of space is put to use.

The cubed mass is carved out to provide interior and exterior spaces for all weather conditions. The roof is occupied. The façade acts as a billboard, the front yard becoming vertical. The smooth, neatly clipped graphic landscape hides the chaos of our life with three small children that plays out behind. This is our home.

Location: 83 South Street, Beaconsfield, WA 6162

Employees: 10

Established: 1999

Specialities:

CODA is an architecture practice that doesn’t see the contradiction in creating work that is both practical and intellectually rigorous. Since 1999, we have been dedicated to a user-centric design approach, and have grown an enviable portfolio demonstrating a contemporary vision that respects the functional and emotional requirements of those that interact with our buildings. This approach has seen us widely recognised as one of Western Australia’s premier young practices, while securing significant commercial projects.
